Fixing Concrete Slabs

Blog

It can be frustrating to find that your concrete is starting to fall apart. There are many different reasons for your concrete to start to fall apart. It may be that the contractor that laid the concrete did not do it properly, and the concrete did not set up properly. It could be that the freeze and thaw weather cycle has caused cracks in the cement. No matter what has caused your concrete to start to crack and erode, you need to do something about it. If you allow the concrete to continue to erode, you will most likely have to replace the entire slab. Here are a few different ways to work on fixing your concrete.

Mudjack

If your concrete has started to crack because the foundation that it was laid on was not sturdy, you may want to invest in a mudjack (slabjack). This is a machine that is going to pump a mixture of cement and sand down into the cracks. This machine will do two things for your cement. The first thing that it will accomplish is raising the fallen concrete. It will effectively lift the concrete level. The mudjack will also ensure that the base is now sturdy. The concrete and sand mixture will make a solid foundation.

Fill Cracks

You may also want to just simply fill in the cracks. You can fill the cracks with cement or a sealant. Either way it is a very good way to preserve your concrete. When rain gets into the cracks of your cement it can erode it away. Water can be especially harmful to cement if it freezes because when water freezes it expands. This expansion can do a great deal of damage to your concrete. This is called ice wedging and you need to ensure that it does not happen to your concrete.

Seal

When you have used your mudjack or filled the cracks of your concrete slabs, you should put a high quality sealant on your concrete. This will hep protect your concrete in the future. There are many sealants that are available, but check for a sealant that is going to protect against water damage, salt damage, and oil. These are some of the most common causes of damage to a concrete slab.

If you find that your concrete is not in a condition where you can fix it, you will want to call a talented concrete contractor, like one from Roklin Systems Incorporated. They will be able to remove the concrete slab, and replace it.

Finishing Our Property

When I first moved into our house, I realized that the place needed a little bit of work. In addition to missing part of the back lawn, there was also an empty RV pad and a missing patio. I thought about what to do, and I realized that the best thing might be to hire a concrete contractor to make things right. After we got settled, we started pricing services. We were able to find an incredible contractor that we knew would do a good job. After he poured the pads, it was amazing to see how much better things looked. Read my blog for ideas on how to finish your property, so that you aren't left looking at an eyesore.
