Four Things To Consider For Basement Construction

Blog

If you are considering basement construction for your home, you should be sure that you make the plans detailed to ensure that your basement is perfectly constructed. So when it comes to basement construction, here are four important things to consider:

  1. Waterproofing: Waterproofing your basement is absolutely essential even if you don't live in a flood zone area. This is because, no matter what, the basement is an easy place for humidity to build. When this happens, mold and mildew grow, which is dangerous for your health, your family's health, and the stability and livability of the basement. There is waterproof paint you can use on the walls, plus during the process of construction, you can install a French drain system, which effectively keeps water away from the foundation of the home where it could otherwise easily seep into the basement.
  2. Building Codes: Another important thing to consider is the building codes in your area. If these are not taken into consideration during the construction of your basement, it cannot legally be considered another space in your home. It can also result in potential problems with legal issues in the future if someone is hurt in the basement. So be sure to hire a contractor who knows and meets up to the building codes in your area.
  3. Evacuation: For safety reasons, you need to be sure that the basement can easily be evacuated from in the event of a fire. There should be a window or windows that can be crawled out of without any obstruction. You may even consider installing a door that leads to the outside. Be sure that these things are also secure, though, to ensure that your home cannot easily be broken into.
  4. Ventilation: Finally, you need to be sure that there is enough ventilation in the basement, which prevents the humidity from building up. The windows should be easy to open and should let in enough light for it to be livable, as well. You may even consider the installation of a dehumidifier that effectively removes humidity in the space. If you are including a bathroom, be sure that you also install a ventilation fan even if there won't be a shower in there. If the sink is run with hot water, then it can lead to too much moisture build up.

When you consider these four things, you can be sure that your basement construction is done right. Visit websites like http://www.hanoverconcrete.com/ to learn more.

Finishing Our Property

When I first moved into our house, I realized that the place needed a little bit of work. In addition to missing part of the back lawn, there was also an empty RV pad and a missing patio. I thought about what to do, and I realized that the best thing might be to hire a concrete contractor to make things right. After we got settled, we started pricing services. We were able to find an incredible contractor that we knew would do a good job. After he poured the pads, it was amazing to see how much better things looked. Read my blog for ideas on how to finish your property, so that you aren't left looking at an eyesore.
